This sketch has to do with hyperbole and the cat in the hate...sorry about having no frame.
I wanted to incorporate the rest of the band besides just Joe Lovano within this composition, and I wanted to reference what I felt that their music may look like if I had put pattern to them. This has the cat in the hat as being personified as a person, and also I'm dealing with layers and how they are a metaphor for his other band mates.
This is quite the simple composition, but I wanted to see if I could write "Joe Lovano" within the shape of a cat.
This one is similar to my second idea, of having the cat in the hat, but with his band mates. Showing each instrument but it being an abstract idea. I was imaging the layers done with silk screen, but I'm just not sure if I can get it done in time.
This is one I showed in class, and I felt it has Hyperbole as well. Also, the pattern is being used as a metaphor for his music.
Working with the cat in the hat seems to be very appropriate and the second sketch has some visual potential (as does masking). You could be using pattern in a metaphorical or allegorical way. Be thoughtful about the patterns your create so each one can represent a unique aspect of the group or music or joe. I imagine you could really get into that!
