Here are some screen shots from my pdf portfolio I developed.
Some criticisms that were made were to make my descriptions about each of my pieces should be smaller. Show some process instead of talking about it in my description. Finesse my resume, be more delicate, and sensitive with the type. Get rid of the "contact info", and play down my phone number a bit. Also, get rid of the dates on each slide.
Another idea was to combine the first two pages to be one, since they basically do the same thing.

Type 3: Koenig Layouts update #2
Some improved layouts as well, plus new ones!
Not so sure how the type is working with it being close to the edge....Also I'm questioning some of the imagery.
Type 3: Koenig Layouts update
In these layouts, I really wanted to play with space, and represent how open Koenig's houses feel due to the materials used. I also wanted emphasize the steel structure and show the actual beams being used without the other materials attached. Due to my organization I also wanted to have "introduction" spread for each year.
Playing with space with the colored planes has been a problem, still trying to figure that out.

Type 3: Koenig Layouts
These three images are of the layouts that were a good direction to head in last week, working with my 5 column, 4 row grid will be fun, and also nice to have some flexibility to it.
The type faces I'm working with are Caecilia, and Franklin Gothic.
I'm also wanting to add some graphic elements through the entire layouts.
Now for this week!
Notes from crit:
-Make the graphic boxes mean something, and not make them default device.
-Work with less change in column width. Try and stay within an idea, and tweak it nicely, and slightly. -Not a huge jump.
-Stay consistent!
-Overlaying text is a good idea, make legible.
-Mimic the way I use the images within my text
Due to amount of content I plan on rearranging my book to have sections of different dates, so it will have an opening page to each section of dates, then have the houses, or buildings within that section. It was nice to see and hear the lecture today, because it made me thinking about all the other things I can add to my layouts, such as graphic elements, and the idea of working with a grid not on a grid.

Type 3: typeface mailer
Working through the process has been a quick, and confusing time. The freedom in this project to me is a bit confusing. (strangely.)...uh, yeah.
Here is my first draft of my typeface layout.
I've chosen the fonts: Caslon, and Frutiger. One represents a women's body, and the other represents a man's body. Through out the mailer I'll point out certain points to why I feel this way, and why they work together well.
These are the two spreads I'm working with right now.
The cover
The continued back side.
First open fold
Second
Third
Forth
fifth
sixth.
They are all a bit confusing on this, but these were basically the spreads I was working with individually.
After Critique it was said that the inside of the fold out was more effective than the outside where all the folding happens. It minimalistic approach seemed to be less crowded and crammed in. So I need to work on eliminating some graphic elements from the other side, and definitely lowering the type size on the copy.
Also, with the beams coming out of their eyes Kidwell suggested doing something unconventional with the basic character set and have them beaming out of their eyes rather than just being static and boring.

Tender Buttons final concept
Working through all the glitches within this project I finally have a for sure direction, and I'm ready to get to work on it. I wanted to concentrate on the idea of pointing out what was the main part of each fragmented "sentence" while taking the focus off all the junk and extra wording, such as "and, is, it, that" sort of thing. Here are some compositions I was thinking of.
I'm also planning on finding a nice box to put all of the poems in while wrapping it somehow, because I felt that each poem was special, and I wanted to treat them as letters of some sort.
I'm now planning on going with the first idea that is presented here. While taking the words to be a smaller size and turning them upside down so that the viewer can still read them, but I make them less important.
