For our research we also left behind a culture probe for our subject, David to fill out and interact with. It included a stop watch, post-its, pedometer, map, markers and pen. We just recieved it back, and this is what we got back:
We asked him to list his commute to work, but as well list the routes he would take on a break, or lunch time. He had a main route, but explained that he usually stops at WY's on the way home, and for fun he may just got ride around in a residential area. We also left him stickers to point out exact trouble spots on the map. The red dots show heavy traffic areas, and places it's harder to get around, while the green dots show a release in traffic and things are easier to navigate through. And the blue dots show stops on his pleasure rides. It was interesting to see how condensed his area is. I'm sure he gets around KC, but making sure things are in one's reach of a bike commuter is key.
His over all commute to work would be around 2.5-3 miles, depending on which route. and It should take around 10-15 minutes, also depending on some factors such as weather and traffic.
